Basement Decorating Ideas
It's not that difficult to turn your basement into useable space with some basement decorating and remodeling. If you put some work into it, you can almost double the living space in your home! Granted that this idea may turn some people off because a basement is stuck underground, but in reality this fact is an advantage for certain types of rooms. Here's some ideas on how you can transform your basement from dull to dreamy.
With just a little bit of work, your basement can be the perfect music or home theater room. Perhaps the biggest thing about this makeover is the acoustic lining that you'll want to put on the ceiling and walls. This will make sure you don't blow out everyone in the rest of the house if you crank the sound! Basements are great for home theaters because most of them are already pretty dark, but you need to make sure you have a good dehumidifier to protect the electronic equipment.
A game room is popular for basements today. Why go out to the corner bar when you can replicate it in your basement? Plus you make a lot more noise in the basement without bothering the neighbors. You can really add some zip to the place too by painting the floor and walls and adding in some good lighting.
Home Gym - this is a simple idea you can use with very little modification to your basement. You won't have to worry about marking up the floors or walls and the concrete gives the equipment a solid footing. Just add a few mirrors to the wall and some rubber mats on the floor and your ready to workout. The only thing you'll need to worry about, however, is finding a good ventilation system for your basement to keep fresh air circulating in it constantly since you'll be breathing heavily from exercise.
A workshop is another idea that is perfect for the basement and can be done with little modification. Depending on what you use your workshop for, the basement may be better than the garage. Depending on what you work on, you might need to make the door bigger to fit and if your tools are very loud you might consider acoustic lining.
Decorating your basement can be as costly or inexpensive as you want it to be. However, like with anything else in the home decorating area, the more you spend, both in time and money, the better the outcome!
