Freeware Games: Stay Safe While Playing!

by Aiden Zapora

Freeware games are very popular on the Internet. Typing the word "games" on a search engine will offer you loads of web sites, where each gives you different kinds of games. Everything can be found, from online golf games to rpg online games. This can be very entertaining, but at the same time you mustn't forget about safety rules while playing.

Most game creators are good people that are only interested in creating good games for people to enjoy. Unfortunately there are others that try to harm people by disguising malware as games. Malware is a term to encompass a variety of harmful or just unwanted programs people try to sneak onto your computer. Some cause pop-up advertising to appear as you browse the web while others try to steal your personal information like passwords or bank account and credit card numbers.

There are risks inherent in almost anything online, including freeware games. These games come in two major categories: ones which get downloaded to your computer, and ones you play via a web browser. Unfortunately, malwear can be introduced by the use of either alternative. However, you will be happy to know that there are means you can employ to avoid that.

When you're searching for freeware games, mainly those that require downloading, you have to be cautious. Try to use only trusted sites, since they earned their reputation for a reason. They wouldn't accept a game with harmful malware, and that you could actually read on their downloads section. Unknown sites are not always safe.

Try to avoid websites with multiple pop up ads, even if you don't plan on downloading anything. A number of these sites will attempt to install viral software onto your computer without you knowledge, something you certainly do not want. There is a fine line between aggressive marketing and intrusive advertising that is not truly legitimate.

Whenever you find that you have downloaded a game that contains malware, use anti-virus and anti-malware software as soon as possible. There are several free programs available online to cleanup your computer. It is advisable to consult a professional, if you have any doubts. You must be careful with these powerful programs. Otherwise you may encounter more problems than you'd solve.

Above all, keep in mind that the amount of games with malware is ultimately a small percentage. You can find plenty of great freeware games that are safe for your computer too. However, since the risk is out there, it makes sense to protect your system. No game is worth the aggravation of having to spend hours cleaning up the mess it made of your PC.

Internet freeware games are highly popular. Just typing in a search for "games" on a search engine will give you multitudes of web sites, each offering their own kinds of games. You can find everything from rpg online games to online golf games on the Web. They can be highly entertaining, but it's also important to observe a few safety rules while playing. However, the risk of introducing something damaging into your computer system is there, however small, so use some common sense. Nothing will ruin your day faster than having your computer crash and spending hours trying to fix it.
