Freeware Games: Resources On The Internet

by Aiden Zapora

If we had said to many people about five or six years ago that many fun games like freeware games were accessible to be played, they might have accepted with a mixed feeling of apathy or disdain. This was the attitude because these games had less scope and quality. They were of two types containing card, puzzle, and arcade genre that were browser based games that and demos that were quite expensive to be bought in order to continuously play them.

Today, things have changed-- luckily, for the better. Not only have freeware games improved in quality considerably, they're no longer limited to just a few simple genres. Gamers are no longer stuck with solitaire or word-based games; they can have their pick of role playing, sports, strategy, and action-adventure games. There are even driving games online. It may be tempting to cynically assume that this new generation of freeware are poorly made. On the contrary, many of them actually match the level, quality, and complexity of their more commercial competitors.

Gaming publications are a great source for locating fantasy and sci-fi rpg online games. These games have seen a drastic increase in popularity in recent years. Gaming magazines provide valuable reviews on both store bought games as well as internet games, including freeware and shareware games. Gaming publications mainly focus on retail games but do provide space for online games as well. There are other sources available for locating information on these popular games but gaming magazines are a great place to start.

Directory is another good place to find a freeware. It's a special site the sole purpose of which is to help visitors locate the required sites according to their subject of interests. Obviously, a directory dedicated for gaming is a better site to visit than a generalized one, since it is dedicated for games and can help visitors searching for the games of their choices which can be paid, shareware or freeware. Don't stop with a generic gaming directory since there are directories which are specialized in locating freeware alone.

Try using a search engine like Google to locate freeware games. Using a search engine should be used as a last resort since searches for free stuff tends to bring up many spam and warez sites that are designed to take advantage of these queries.

Most importantly, are freeware games really free to play? Are there any hidden fees or other catches? You'll be pleased to know that these games are completely free for your enjoyment. For some games, all you need is a name and an e-mail address, while others also require a fast Internet connection. However, there are no added fees for the games themselves. So don't rule out freeware when you're looking for a good game to play. You'll be pleasantly surprised by the enjoyable, high quality content, which now rivals even the best of commercially developed games.

Several years ago, freeware games were not terribly popular due to the lower quality; however, they have vastly improved in their quality and aren't limited to a few simple genres. These games now include rpg online games as well as driving games online. People, though, may not know how to find the games. They can look in a gaming publication, a directory, or use a search engine. These games are free, but you need to provide contact information and have a fast internet connection to get those most out of the gaming experience.
