Collectibles: Why We Love Them

by Daniel Wright

The significance of collecting is not in the cost. The true importance of collecting is in the interests of the person involved. Every person in the world is a collector whether they realize it or not. The great thing about collecting is that you do not have to just collect expensive items, such as art or antiques.

The dictionary definition of "collectible" is "things that are worth collecting". You might think this is limited to rare artwork, antiques, and expensive statues, but in fact a valuable collection can be made without spending millions of dollars.

Any compilation of like objects with some intrinsic or extrinsic value can be considered a collection. Youngsters often dabble in philately or numismatics. As we leave adolescence and enter adulthood, the specifics of items collected may change, but the desire to obtain and maintain obscure and unusual examples never disappears.

If you're still unsure as to what actually makes a "collectible", then the following sentences will clear things up for you. There are many things that are considered a "collectible", even a "soda machine" is worthy of collecting. Also, things such as vintage coffee makers, cigar boxes, old wines, smoking pipes, etc. can be referred to as "collectibles".

It may sound a little weird, but a "Pepsi" dispenser machine is also a super item to add to a collection! You can search under agriculture, banking, clothing, automobiles, fashion, art, ornaments, music, cups, glasses, plates, seashells, photos and furniture online for tips and information about adding to your collection. The next question is, where can you acquire these collectibles? No need to worry- the Internet is a great tool for that!

There is an endless supply of web sites that sell these commodities. Simply use a search engine to find the specific piece you desire for your collection. You will receive several results which will direct you to web sites that specialize in the items you are interested in collecting. When you have company visiting your home or apartment, they will see your wonderful collection and surely give you compliments on your artistic talents and choices!
