Collectibles Are A Popular Pastime And A Lucrative Business

by Dan Wright

You've probably heard the saying "One man's junk is another man's treasure." This definitely applies to the business of collector's items. Owning collectibles is a great way to commemorate past events and time periods from your life. Collectibles are also a lucrative business for people who are in the know.

People collect many different types of things. Some people collect books or magazines, while others may collect posters or post cards, or even tea cups and figurines. Some of these items will increase in value over time, while other simply don't hold their value. Comic books are quite popular collectibles, especially if they are in mint condition. Anything can be sold to a collector if you can only find them.

You can buy collectibles in various places. Comic book stores and sports memorabilia stores are two examples of specialty outfits. You can also check out thrift stores where other people donate their unwanted goods. Estate sales can be a great place to find a new treasure. Many collectors also try their luck at online auctions.

The popularity of sports due to a large number of athletes has made sports collectibles a very hot area. These items can vary by the sport, but include jerseys, posters, sports cards, autographs, and balls. The items represent the actual sport and player to those who collect them. It is like reaching out and touching the person and connecting with the athlete. Sometimes these items can become very valuable, especially if the person is inducted into the hall of fame. These items represent a portion of our culture.

The Coca-Cola collector's items are a very popular type of collectibles. These items include tins, glasses, old Coke bottles, figurines and ornaments which often have a retro feel to them. The early Coke-Cola memorabilia often had a woman wearing beautiful clothing of the time, drinking a soda. The signature Coke-Cola polar bear is often used on many memorabilia in recent times.

One person's junk is another person's treasure. All of us have cherished items from our past that we keep close to our heart. Over time, more and more objects become as a market develops for historical items to commemorate past periods and events. What's your favorite collectible item?

Your idea of what is valuable and worth saving may be very different from your neighbors. Today the field of collectibles is very vast and some items go for considerable sums of money. Coca cola memorabilia is one growing field. Collectors save anything made by Coke or with a Coke logo. Coca-cola used to put ladies with very fancy clothing on much of their advertising. Today, many of the advertising pieces feature a polar bear. This is just one example of how trends change over time. Coke items collected can include old bottles, bottle caps, figurines, ornaments, tins, trays, and more.
